Our story
Since 2025
Archaeology Unearthed is the website for everything ancient-archaeology, history, languages, anthropology, evolution, paleontology, architecture, artifacts, geology, geography. Shall we continue? From Mesopotamia, the Mediterranean, and Europe, to Africa, the Americas, Russia and Asia to Antarctica. Content will include the migration out of Africa, the population of Africa, the Mediterranean and Europe, as wells as the peopling of Asia, Australia and the Americas. Topics include the origins of agriculture and domestication, craft specialization, the rise and fall of civilizations and empires through the Middle Ages. An understanding of how cultures, politics, economics and religions evolve, spread and become manipulated, transformed and/or end permeates the site.
Archaeology Unearthed is the culmination of a blog that began in 2020 on the platform Quora, with its sister site, Adventures in Archaeology. It brought together an international community comprised of academics, professionals, students, volunteers, the self-educated, and a few who stumbled across the space accidentally – basic anyone with a passion in archaeology and ancient studies.
Archaeology Unearthed is a massive undertaking due to its comprehensive span of chronology, geography, content and scientific underpinnings. Let’s not forget we are an international community representing six continents, hundreds of countries, thousands of unique cultures and languages, dozens of religious traditions from all walks of life. Differences and misunderstandings are a constant concern, requiring moderation, compassion and understanding from all.
Archaeology Unearthed is intended to be a safe haven, where content, discussions and events are open access to all. No subscriptions, paywalls, popups or endless advertisements are permitted. Groundbreaking discoveries, scientific innovations, patience, time and our shared passion for everything ancient, will in time, bring to fruition the Archaeology Unearthed envisioned six years ago.
I hope you will grab your trowels, notebooks, wheelbarrow and bottle of water and join us in the trenches as Archaeology Unearthed begins a new phase of excavations.
